Juneteenth, observed on June 19th, celebrates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. It commemorates the day in 1865 when Union soldiers, led by General Gordon Granger, arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced the end of slavery, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. This day honors African American history and culture, with celebrations and events reflecting on freedom, resilience, and progress. At LATS we honor this day by remaining closed, we will reopen Thursday June 20th, 2024.
