American Recovery & Reinvestment Act of 2009
The purpose of the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009 is to create and save jobs, jumpstart our economy on a local and national level, and enact the largest increase in funding of our nation's roads, bridges, and mass transit systems since the creation of the nation's highway system in the 1950's. The Lawton Area Transit System (LATS) will utilize its ARRA funding to purchase three heavy duty low-floor transit buses, two wheelchair accessible supervisor vehicles, bus washing equipment, Paratransit scheduling & productivity software, security & surveillance equipment for the adminstration/maintenance facility & a heavy-duty maintenance truck. The ARRA funding will allow LATS to begin the much-needed process of re-energizing its aging bus fleet. In addition, higher levels of productivity will be achieved through dedicated supervisor vehicles, software advancements and fleet maintenance equipment additions. With capital equipment additions such as these LATS will help stimulate not only the national economy but the local economy as well by providing a more efficient, affordable and safe transportation service to its passengers and the taxpayers.
